BERLINALE It opened on 10 February, the 61st Festival
Berlin Film , this year an eventful film very important. Twenty-two films reviewed in sixteen in the race for the Golden Bear. Many German productions, a little less American and only three Italian films presented in subsections, including
"whatever" with Antonio Albanian and "Abbott and women." Plenty of room, as the traditional Middle Eastern and Asian cinema, and a considerable parentheses to previews and special events.
Opening the festival on Thursday, out of competition, the Coen brothers
with
"The Grit" , played by a cast "all star" in which stand
Jeff Bridges (who were in the shoes of John Wayne
) and the young
Hailee Steinfeld .
"I love John Wayne: my baby favorite movie was 'Red River', I wanted to be like him. But the thing I loved most of the character of Cogburn is that I was able to further document on him because of the details of the book by Portis. For an actor it's great when something like this happens " said Bridges. The Coen film it is not a simple remake but is mainly based on the novel by Charles Portis
that inspired the character of The Grit. Excellent reception at the Berlinale that has made The Grit as one of the most anticipated films of the season (to be released on February 18
for Universal Pictures).
Second Edition competition worthy of note, on 11 February,
"Margin Call" of
JC Chandor , with Kevin Spacey
in great shape. A film about the world of high finance to the "Wall Street" in which Spacey plays a ruthless business struggling with his conscience in the face of a scam that could make them millionaires or no money but at peace with himself.
"I loved this role because I had the opportunity to make a more interior: the merits of the film is to show the human side of these people that in 2008 we read day after day on the front pages of newspapers." A great movie with a great cast:

an eye particularly to the film "The Devil's Double" , directed by Lee Tamahori
and presented in the Panorama section

The Duchess), the film's story focuses on the family of Saddam Hussein and in particular the eldest son, Uday, and his double, Latif Yahia (author of the book that inspired the film). What emerges is a portrait of a psychopathic man and his impersonator had to replace it in ceremonies public life at risk. An original story, in which Cooper engages for the first time in two roles:
"It 's been a very difficult test. I looked up Youtube videos of Saddam and his family and I have documented on this story. I have also studied the families of other dictators, and found that often their children had the same character of Uday, since no one could control them ".
Tomorrow the official competition resumes Feb. 14 with the expected debut of Ralph Fiennes

chaired the jury that will hand the Golden Bear Isabella Rossellini . Affinacano The Australian producer Jan Chapman , German actress Nina Hoss , director Bollywood Aamir Khan , the Canadian director Guy Maddin and costume designer Sandy Powell English. The other member of the jury Jafar Panahi, Iranian director won the Golden Bear in 2006, is absent because he was arrested in 2010 for his opposition to the regime of his country.
