THE FILM
British director Alfred Hitchcock can define not only the "master of chill" but also the father of the psychological thriller.
Marnie , specifically, deals with a theme like that of kleptomania is associated with a childhood sexual trauma and for the times when the movie came out, 1964, created some conflicting opinions and criticisms. The Puritan America hastily considered the film too "itchy" and did not have much success, unlike in Europe, where instead Marnie received a fair success.
The psychoanalytic research, so early and too highbrow for the issues closely related to cinema of the 60s start, right-thinking destabilized some critics, accustomed to a more focused Hitchcock on the thrill and excitement that built on the psychological depth of a single character, particularly of women.
Based on the novel by Winston Graham , Marnie fact, besides being a good psychological thriller, offers one of the most interesting female characters of production "Hitchcock", even if the director has always had an eye for its actresses. Tippi Hedren
here in the title role, embodies the ideal woman so dear to Hitchcock blonde, cold and mysterious. Like Kim Novak and Grace Kelly before her. But unlike the two, Hedren is able to play well his role with his innocent face and apparent on his face impassive.
In a counterpoint all'algida Marnie, we find an increasingly bloody and fascinating young Sean Connery, fresh from James Bond and not yet a star. The determination of his manner and his way of love with absolute dedication and willingness to help this unknown woman in Pietism never expire or saccharine sentimentality, helping to write the history that good dose of curiosity and veiled sensuality CEH does not hurt.
An application to the director Truffaut captures well the essence "What is it that fascinates so the main character of Marnie? This thief That depends on him because he knows his secret and he could hand it over to the police or, more simply because it is exciting to go to bed with a thief? " Hitchcock replied: "They are definitely the two things at once."
The story of the film then focuses on the unusual relationship between the two protagonists and the relationship with her mother, a seemingly cold and hostile toward the dismantling of the way down the drama that plagues Marnie, remain vigilant the viewer with intelligence and involvement.
still experimental use of special effects, such as reversion and flashbacks help the audience to enter and view in the mind of the protagonist in an original, albeit somewhat outdated now showing.
A great psychological and emotional plot created by a filmmaker of which now feels so much the lack ...

THE CAST
Tippi Hedren is Marnie
Margaret Edgar, known as Marnie, is plagued by a recurring dream in his sleep and the terror of the red. But not only is a thief, kleptomaniac and lives of theft and false identity. The former Mrs. Griffith, and mother of Melanie Griffith's best known, plays his role perfectly: icy and brittle, a fraud with the face of an angel. Muse to Hitchcock, worked with him in the movie The Birds .

Sean Connery Mark is
Mark Rutland is the classic man in one piece, self-confident and resolute in the decisions both ways. Its entry into the life of Marnie, even without tax and outlets will be his salvation and his opportunity to rediscover herself and serenity. Sean Connery plays his role well, that part for him very congenial straborderà in future Bond films.

As usual, the director reserves a small appearance at the beginning of the film as a customer of a hotel.

Every now and am pleased to revive old classic black and white or technicolor: they always had a special fascination for me and I have often found most interesting and many modern films of today. Marnie
This in particular is one of my favorite Hitchcock, despite not being among the best of its production and has done even better. But it will be the unusual weave sentimental, it is the aura of mystery surrounding the protagonist, Marnie capture the attention and does not disappoint, offering a story with original features and less predictable. What most fascinates and achievement of this film is what is not said, what you see and not what lies behind the facade of bourgeois respectability is so dear to America 50s-60s.
His familiarity with the hidden depths of the human mind and its ability to dig deeply into the darker sides of reality, have made a Hitchcock film "popular" in the most positive sense of the word. He made it understandable to all what others have unnecessarily complicated language and peppered with philosophies, fit only to a certain audience arthouse .
A psychological thriller in this case could have been intimidating, but in fact the film runs and passionate, arousing the curiosity and interest of the viewer with intelligence and with a touch of romance.
Recommended for those who love Hitchcock thrillers and old style, no special effects and with much substance.

THE FILM
The Hungarian director Istvan Szabó ( Mephisto, Being Julia ) is one of the few internationally acclaimed filmmakers who manage to pack more flavor of the film craft built with passion and detailed study of every little facet.
Sunshine Filmon is a three-hour deals with subjects that are very important, as expressed over a long period of time, within a Jewish family that will address, at the end of the first part 800 and 900, the most important events not only of his family history but the history of mankind.
Sunshine, in English, means precisely Sonnenschein, a name of Hebrew origin that represents not only the family but the entire Jewish population grappling with the eternal persecution in one way or another, has always marked the its existence.
Szabó stops to analyze the ages, but especially the compromises to which they are subjected family members over the years to satisfy his ambition or just to be accepted by a society that has always viewed with suspicion and has always despised them. As an indelible mark.
The extreme versatility of an actor like Ralph Fiennes offers three different characters together, united by bonds of blood but divided by their different ambitions and technical prescriptions. Ignatz's son Adam and his nephew Ivan (all three played by Fiennes) have children of their time and as such are sucked by the current political, social and human overwhelm them in a vortex-sac.
Ignatz is a judge, faithful to his duty for which he goes to sacrifice their loved ones, their origins, his name and his honor, but to serve his Emperor in a war that will see him defeated. At the end of the war will lose all enthusiasm for life, despite his wife Valerie will always be next, even after separation, but their ways of thinking and their worlds are too different, and die in a few years, along with that empire to so much thought.
son Adam suffers from the naughty boy of his companions that his being a jew, despite the name Hungarian Sors. He manages to redeem itself with its sporting abilities, becoming a great fencer, but that shadow Semitic is seen as a disgrace to his country and comes to renounce his religion, to become a Catholic, just to reach the summit and be accepted into the Olympic team. Win the gold medal, it will become a national hero, but his pride will not see the storm clouds on the horizon. Confident and ambitious, as the superman of his time, entertain an adulterous relationship with the sister Greta, while loving wife, a victim of its own weaknesses. But the Holocaust will sweep their lives, dividing forever, and his own pride will bring him to death in a gruesome horror Nazi victim, under the eyes of the helpless child.
Ivan is the result of the heir to the work of his predecessors: a boy not yet a man who survived the violence of the extermination camps, confused and fragile, insecure on the road to take. Find the road of political, embracing the communist party as the only way of redemption, but very soon you will realize how all systems will look like and how in all didatture that promise freedom, actually nest in the deepest injustice.
Ivan is the one who for the first time in the history of his family will take a position, will remain in balance at the end of his convictions and riapproprierà of its roots and of that name that his ancestors had so easily denied: Sonnenschein.
A "ferry" the various characters in the story, the ever-present figure of Valerie Sonnenschein, played by Jennifer Ehle (young) and Rosemary Harris (from old): a free woman, modern and intellectual, but perhaps the most loyal with herself and true to its roots. It will be the madam of the spirit of the family, free of the tragedies, losses and wounds that time has left.
not have been easy to assemble a script so full of events, personal nuances, and reconnect to the true chronological history of Hungary. Too many irons in the fire can often confuse, annoy or be too hasty for the enormity and seriousness of agomenti treated. Szabó
have managed, with a skilled hand and sensitive, although at times he let go and sentimental scenes of sex or just not to sound too didactic, but at the expense of the real substance of the film.
Excellent sets and locations, mostly filmed in and around Budapest, Berlin, Paris and in the beautiful historic center of Vienna. Much sought after costumes, beautiful in every period covered, and the soundtrack, by Michel Jarre.
A film about the importance of their origins, their honor and futility of escape themselves, skillfully built on the wings of history by the expert hand of a good director of School.

CAST
Ralph Fiennes is Ignatz Sonnenschein, Adam and Ivan Sors.
Grandfather, father and grandson, three performances in three different contexts. Three generations conceived compared with the essence of their time, with strength and determination. A good test of Fiennes, the protagonist of each frame and the axle of the history, dominates the film with his charismatic presence and his impeccable embodiment of each character, drawing from each other than humanity. For this role Fiennes won a European Film Awards (the European Academy) in 1999, deserved.

Jennifer Ehle and Rosemary Harris are Valerie Sonnenschein .
Mother and daughter in real life, the two actresses impersonating the character of Valerie by young and old. An excellent interpretation of the latter mainly in its strength and its simplicity. A woman who was carried away as men of his family, but he faced the loving and living life in full consciousness of itself, without compromise.

Rachel Weisz is Greta .
brief but intense role, Greta is the sister of Adam: always in love with him and marries his older brother, Istvan, but does not hesitate to seduce him, heedless of the consequences. Selfish and passionate, Greta is a woman who does not give up and get what he wants, but the tragic events will not give more space to his hopes. Weisz will return to the always excellent to work with Fiennes in The Constant Gardener .

Completing the cast in the role of James Frain Gustav young, Molly Parker in to Hanna, the wife of Adam, William Hurt in to Andor Knorr and Deborah Kara Unger in to Carole , the lover of Ivan.

Released muted a bit all over the world and maybe ever in Italy, I found this DVD just for my passion for the actor Ralph Fiennes. This film offers perhaps one of his best performances: never a flaw, never drop style, perfect in every shot. But despite the plot, do not expect yet another film about the Holocaust or even a melodrama of the past.
SUNSHINE a vision and deserves careful reflection.
The director puts his characters as pawns on a chess board: men who play with his own fate as a game of chess where every move can move events and every mistake will lead them to the brink of their lives.
Through the narrative more or less detailed history of his homeland, the film focuses on this Jewish family and places it in the middle of a storyline that alternates History in history, presenting the events that changed the humanity of the last century through the eyes of three generations.
Despite the accurate staging, enriched with beautiful scenery and costumes, Szabó indulges in parentheses, however worthy of a soap opera, perhaps with a view to lighten the narrative and capture more the public's attention: successful experiment in half, because sometimes, in my opinion, some scenes are inappropriate or too ostentatious. However, I can not praise the work as a whole, rich in detail, some interesting and unusual historical aspects to our knowledge, supported by a script too linear at times but not devoid of rhythm.
A movie not boring, as long as you undertake a fundamental interest.
Otherwise, forget it ...

Parsifal

This year has started my run-up to the Royal works and begin with a piece chain: Wagner's Parsifal, the last work of his master, who combines a rock drifts Christian with Buddhist influences.
start with the plot: At Mount
Monsalvat Amfortas has built a hermitage where preserves the Holy Grail and the Spear of Longinus. Here live the Knights of the Grail, which feed the light of the relic and exempt the property in the world. In the nearby valley is stable Klingsor, a knight who has resisted the calls of the flesh and was seduced by the dark side of Light. He created a garden in the valley where temptation leads in all the Knights who pass as well as Amfortas lost it falls victim to the spear and was wounded. The wound does not heal in the body when it is not so much as the soul. This retreat comes Parsifal, the chosen one, but has no memory of whether or faith.
In the first act we are introduced to the hermitage, we know the story from the words of Gunremanz, First Knight of the Grail, Parsifal know and witness the ritual of the Grail, which produces a lot of pain to Amfortas.
Act II scene I Klingsor and Kundry
sketch staff
In the second act we find that subjects Klingor Kundry, a woman who once mocked the supreme and is now living in two divided personality: the one friend of the Knights and their other seductress, has also seduced Amfortas. Kundry now he has to seduce Parsifal. The hero enters the garden of the magician and almost fell under the influence of Kundry fne but understands the significance of the wound of Amfortas and the woman away. Klingsor who spoke scanglia against Lance but that stops in midair, Parsifal takes the track with it the sign of the cross and the kingdom of the magician vanishes.
third act, it's been several years, has Monsalvat inarridita, Amfortas can no longer bear the weight of the ritual of the Grail. And now back to Parsifal, after defeating Klingsor, has finally found the road. Forgive Kundry and Amfortas sound and the light is shining again on Friday. Already
the plot can be seen only when the work can be complex, if one thinks that is all played on a Christian ethic mixed with Buddhism in which man stands alone to overcome the temptation of his mortifications to run away is strong, but then it does not. Of course sometimes if you are so stubborn to want to follow everything, then you are in front of a wall of verbiage unshakable, yet if you let it carry only the melody. albeit very slow. a unique harmony that will cradle and makes you spend four hours work without ever worn.
the end it's worth it, then at the Royal was the scene of a conceptual artist Paolini G estimated that reproduces very well the sense of light in the face of reason. The scenes of Act II is a wonderful play of colors and shapes that play with sexual symbolism.
